Please read Marc Prensky's The Role of Technology in teaching and the classroom.
- What you you think of his views on technology's use?
- Do you think that teachers do need to change the way they teach? Where do you think you are on this continuum of change?
- Do you agree that we should let students use the tools (phones / MP3 recorders) in their pockets? State why.
- Do you agree that the role of technology in our classrooms is to support the "new" pedagogy of kids teaching themselves with the teacher’s guidance. State why.
I like this - I think education is often better when it asks questions rather than than just giving answers
ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting article. I would have to agree that learning is much more effective when its student lead. I think the use of phones, MP3 players, websites, blogs etc is great, and is an updated way of engaging learners. The difficulties are always going to be keeping students on task. I have my students in a room with computers 1 hour and 30 mins a week and keeping them off Facebook, myspace etc is near on impossible. But yes i do agree and support the views of Prensky as I strongly believe that the students live in this 'computer age' and communicating with them through ICT is probably talking to them in their own language!
